Privacy Policy

MacedoniaTOP respects your privacy and is committed to handling personal data transparently and responsibly. This Privacy Policy explains what information may be collected when you visit MacedoniaTOP.com (the “Site”), how it may be used, when it may be shared, and the choices and rights available to you.

By using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy. Where consent is required by applicable law, we will ask for it before using non-essential cookies or similar technologies.

1. Who We Are

MacedoniaTOP is an independent travel website operated from North Macedonia. For the purposes of applicable data protection law, MacedoniaTOP is the controller of personal data collected directly through the Site.

For privacy questions or requests, contact us at info@macedoniatop.com or through our Contact page.

2. Scope of This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to information processed through MacedoniaTOP.com, including information collected through contact forms, comments, subscriptions, cookies, advertising, analytics, affiliate tools and embedded third-party content.

It does not govern third-party websites, booking platforms, social networks or other services that may be linked from or embedded on the Site. Those services process information under their own privacy policies.

3. Information We May Collect

3.1 Information Collected Automatically

When you visit the Site, our systems and service providers may automatically receive technical information such as:

  • your Internet Protocol (IP) address or an approximate location derived from it;
  • browser type, operating system, device type and screen information;
  • the page or referring website that brought you to the Site;
  • pages viewed, links clicked, approximate visit time and other interaction information;
  • language and regional preferences;
  • cookie identifiers, advertising identifiers and consent choices, where applicable; and
  • diagnostic, performance, security and error information.

This information may be recorded in server logs or processed through analytics, security, advertising and content-delivery services.

3.2 Contact Form and Email Enquiries

If you contact us, we may collect the information you choose to provide, including your name, email address, subject, message, organisation, website and any other details included in your enquiry. We use this information to review, manage and respond to your message.

Please do not send passwords, payment-card details, passport copies, health information or other sensitive documents through the contact form or by email.

3.3 Comments

If you leave a comment, we may collect the information entered in the comment form, such as your comment, name, email address and website. We may also collect your IP address, browser user-agent string and related technical information to help detect spam, fraud and abuse.

Your chosen display name, comment, date and any website you voluntarily provide may be visible publicly. Your email address is not intended to be displayed publicly.

An anonymised string created from your email address, sometimes called a hash, may be sent to the Gravatar service to determine whether you use it. If your comment is approved, your Gravatar profile image may be publicly visible next to the comment.

3.4 Comment and Site Subscriptions

If you choose to subscribe to follow-up comments or new Site content, we may process your email address and subscription preferences to provide the requested notifications. You can unsubscribe using the link provided in an email or by contacting us.

3.5 Search Information

If you use the Site search, the words or phrases you enter may be processed to display relevant results and may appear in technical or analytics logs.

3.6 Information About Bookings

MacedoniaTOP does not directly process tour bookings, accommodation reservations or payments. If you follow a link to a booking provider, any personal or payment information you provide is collected by that provider under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not normally receive your full payment-card or booking-account details.

We do not use information collected directly through the Site to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you solely through automated processing.

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. The Site and its service providers may also use pixels, tags, local storage, scripts and similar technologies. These tools may be used to operate the Site, remember preferences, measure usage, display advertising, prevent fraud and attribute affiliate referrals.

The Site may use the following categories:

  • Strictly necessary technologies: required for security, network management, consent storage and core Site functions.
  • Preference technologies: remember settings such as language, comment details or other choices.
  • Analytics technologies: help us understand visits, page performance and how readers use the Site.
  • Advertising technologies: support ad delivery, personalisation, frequency control, fraud prevention and measurement.
  • Affiliate and embedded-content technologies: support third-party widgets, referral attribution and external media.

For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and other regions where consent is required, MacedoniaTOP uses a Google-certified consent management platform associated with Google AdSense. The consent message allows you to accept, reject or manage relevant advertising and vendor choices.

You can withdraw or change consent choices at any time by reopening the privacy or cookie settings available on the Site. You may also delete or block cookies through your browser, although doing so can affect certain features.

6. Services and Third Parties We Use

6.1 Hosting, Security and Content Delivery

Hosting, content-delivery, caching, security and technical support providers may process IP addresses, request data, device information and server logs as necessary to deliver and protect the Site.

6.2 Jetpack, WordPress.com, Akismet and Gravatar

The Site uses services provided by Automattic, including Jetpack features. Depending on the page and feature, these services may process visitor statistics, page URLs, referring URLs, IP addresses, timestamps, browser information, language, country information, WordPress.com account details and interactions with the Site.

Our contact form and subscription features may be provided through Jetpack. Contact-form submissions may be stored in our WordPress administration area and may be checked by Akismet for spam. Where Akismet is active, form or comment information such as the IP address, user agent, name, email address, website and message may be sent to Automattic for spam analysis.

Gravatar may receive a hash generated from a commenter’s email address and related technical information to retrieve a profile image. You can learn more in Automattic’s Privacy Notice for visitors to users’ sites.

6.3 Google AdSense

MacedoniaTOP uses Google AdSense to display advertising. Google and participating advertising vendors may use cookies or similar technologies to deliver, limit, personalise and measure advertisements, detect fraud and generate reports. Information processed may include your IP address, page URL, browser or device information, cookie or advertising identifiers, interactions with advertisements, approximate location and consent signals.

Depending on your region and consent choices, advertisements may be personalised or non-personalised. Google explains how it processes information from partner websites in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

6.4 GetYourGuide and Affiliate Links

Some pages contain GetYourGuide activity widgets or affiliate links. Pages containing a widget may contact GetYourGuide servers when the widget loads or when you interact with it. GetYourGuide may receive technical information such as your IP address, browser or device details, the page visited and referral or campaign identifiers.

If you click an affiliate link and later make a qualifying booking, MacedoniaTOP may receive a commission. This does not normally increase the price you pay. The booking, payment, customer account, cancellation and refund processes are handled by GetYourGuide or the relevant activity provider, not by MacedoniaTOP. For more information, review the GetYourGuide Privacy Policy.

We may also use first-party affiliate-link management tools to redirect links and measure aggregate referral activity.

6.5 Facebook and Other Social Media Services

The Site may display a Facebook page plugin, social sharing buttons or links to social platforms. When a social plugin loads or you interact with it, the relevant platform may receive information such as your IP address, browser or device information, the page visited and cookie identifiers. This may occur whether or not you are logged in to that platform.

Social platforms process information under their own policies. For Facebook and Instagram, see the Meta Privacy Policy and Meta Cookies Policy.

6.6 Embedded Content and External Websites

Articles may include embedded maps, videos, images, booking tools or other content hosted by third parties. Embedded content can behave as if you visited the third-party website directly and may allow that provider to collect data, use cookies or monitor your interaction, subject to your consent choices and the provider’s own policy.

Links to external websites are provided for information and convenience. MacedoniaTOP does not control the privacy or security practices of those websites.

6.7 Language Preferences

The Site uses multilingual functionality, including WPML, and may store a functional cookie or similar preference so that pages can be displayed in your selected language.

7. When We Share Personal Data

We may share or allow access to personal data only where reasonably necessary:

  • with hosting, security, analytics, contact-form, email, anti-spam, advertising, affiliate and technical service providers;
  • with professional advisers where necessary to obtain legal, accounting or technical assistance;
  • to comply with a law, court order or valid request from a competent authority;
  • to investigate abuse, fraud, security threats or violations of our rights;
  • in connection with a genuine merger, sale, restructuring or transfer of the Site, subject to appropriate safeguards; or
  • when you ask us to share information or otherwise provide valid consent.

We do not sell personal data to data brokers for money. However, some privacy laws may define certain personalised advertising or cross-site advertising disclosures as a “sale,” “sharing” or “targeted advertising.” Where applicable, you can manage those uses through our consent interface or contact us to exercise available rights.

8. International Data Transfers

MacedoniaTOP is operated from North Macedonia and is available internationally. Some service providers may process information in the European Economic Area, the United States or other countries whose data protection rules may differ from those where you live.

Where required, we and our service providers rely on recognised safeguards for international transfers, such as adequacy decisions, approved contractual clauses, consent or another lawful transfer mechanism.

9. Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including legal, security, accounting and dispute-resolution needs. Our typical retention approach is:

  • Contact messages: normally retained for up to 24 months after the last meaningful communication, unless a longer period is needed for an ongoing relationship, legal requirement or dispute.
  • Comments: comments and associated metadata may remain while the relevant article or discussion remains published, unless removal is appropriate or requested.
  • Subscriptions: retained until you unsubscribe or the subscription service is discontinued, subject to limited suppression records needed to respect an opt-out.
  • Security and server logs: retained according to operational and security needs and the schedules of our hosting and security providers, with longer retention where needed to investigate an incident.
  • Analytics, advertising and affiliate information: retained according to our settings and the policies of the relevant provider.
  • Consent records: retained as reasonably necessary to record and demonstrate your choices and our compliance.

We may retain limited information for longer when required by law or necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live and the law that applies, you may have rights to:

  • request confirmation of whether we process your personal data;
  • request access to and a copy of your personal data;
  • correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • request deletion of personal data;
  • restrict or object to certain processing;
  • receive certain information in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal;
  • object to direct marketing at any time; and
  • complain to an appropriate data protection authority.

To make a request, email info@macedoniatop.com and use the subject line “Privacy Request.” Please describe your request and the email address, comment or interaction concerned. We may need to request limited additional information to verify your identity and protect personal data from unauthorised disclosure.

We will respond within the period required by applicable law. These rights may be subject to lawful exceptions, including freedom of expression, legal obligations and the establishment or defence of legal claims.

11. Managing Your Choices

  • Cookie and advertising choices: use the consent interface available on the Site to review or change relevant choices.
  • Browser controls: use your browser settings to delete or block cookies. Blocking necessary cookies may affect Site functionality.
  • Google advertising: you may review available personalisation controls through your Google account or Google’s advertising settings.
  • Subscriptions: use the unsubscribe link in an email or contact us.
  • Public comments: contact us if you want us to review, correct or remove a comment associated with you.

Browser “Do Not Track” signals are not interpreted consistently across the industry. We respond to legally recognised opt-out signals where required and technically supported.

12. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect personal data against accidental loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. However, no website, internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

13. Children’s Privacy

The Site is intended for a general travel audience and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly request personal data from children. If you believe that a child has provided personal data to us without appropriate permission, contact us so we can review and delete it where required.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the Site, our service providers or applicable requirements change. The latest version will be posted on this page and the “Last updated” date will be revised. If a change is material, we may provide an additional notice where appropriate.
